Degree of the devastation

Tigray has been completely devastated, and Its economy, infrastructure including but not limited to, healthcare, education, agriculture, industries, and all forms of private and public wealth have been totally destroyed due the war that started November 2020 and lasted for two years. In the words of former U.N. humanitarian chief, Under Secretary-General Mark Lowcock, back in June 2021: “Businesses have been destroyed. The economy has been destroyed. Crops have been destroyed. Farms have been destroyed.”

“ Before the conflict, the region’s health system was based on a sturdy foundation with enhanced community engagement, in addition to an Early Warning, Alert, and Response System. With the looting and destruction of facilities across Tigray, the family health system has collapsed. A damage assessment study conducted by Mekelle University revealed that 78 percent of health posts, 72 percent of health centers, and 80 percent of hospitals have been destroyed.” ~ Dr. Hagos Godefay, Former Head of Tigray’s Health Bureau

Intervention Areas

The degree and magnitude of the destruction is such that there is no economic, social, inducstrial or any other infrastructure that will not require to be rebuilt from scratch. However, given the educational background and professional experience of the founding members, SIMUR Technologies has  identified the following sectors as the initial focus/intervention areas.

“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.” ~Shannon L. Alder
